What KentHub Is

KentHub is an independent consumer guide for Kent homeowners. We publish practical guides to help you hire tradespeople with more confidence, compare quotes more clearly, and avoid common mistakes before work starts.

We are not a trades directory. We don’t list tradespeople, we don’t take money from tradespeople, and we don’t have any commercial relationship with the trades we write about.

Why We Built It

Most trades websites have a conflict of interest built in. They make money by charging tradespeople to appear in their listings. That means they can’t tell you honestly when a tradesperson is overpriced, poorly reviewed, or not worth hiring — because that tradesperson is paying them.

KentHub was built to fix that. Our guides are written entirely from the homeowner’s side — what things should cost, what to ask before work starts, what red flags to watch for, and when to walk away.

What You’ll Find Here

We currently cover plumbing and electrical work, with live guides across common homeowner jobs such as leaks, boilers, fault finding, consumer unit upgrades, rewiring, EICRs, and outdoor electrical installations.

KentHub is being built as a broader home trades site rather than a two-trade directory. Roofing and damp-related guidance are the next categories planned, with future expansion only where we can keep the information genuinely useful and specific.

Every guide includes:

• Realistic Kent prices — based on current local market rates, not national averages
• What to ask your tradesperson — before they start, not after
• Red flags to watch for — the signs of a cowboy before you’ve handed over any money
• Official-source signposting — links to the relevant GOV.UK guidance, recognised schemes, trade bodies, or consumer sources where legal, safety, or standards issues matter

More trades will be added in stages, but only where we can maintain useful, specific guidance rather than thin category pages.

How Our Guides Are Researched

Our guides are researched using current market data, local Kent pricing, and UK regulatory sources including GOV.UK, the Health and Safety Executive, recognised competent person schemes, trade bodies, and other relevant official or consumer-facing sources. Where rules, standards, or grant amounts change, we update guides and direct readers to the official source for the most current position.

We don’t fabricate statistics. Where we cite data, we name the source. Where we don’t know, we say so.

The Referral Service
